Google Cloud Launches Web3 Blockchain Developer Portal to Mixed Reception

The lack of native support for Bitcoin and Lightning was highlighted by Unchained’s VP of product marketing, Phil Geiger, who felt it was a critical mistake.

A new Web3 page, developed specifically for blockchain developers by Google Cloud, provides access to a wealth of information, including datasets and guides on how to create nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

Even still, the bitcoin community’s reaction has been a mix of excitement and doubt. Phil Geiger, VP of product marketing at Unchained, voiced his displeasure at what he saw as a critical omission: native support for Bitcoin and Lightning.

Geiger asked, “No native Bitcoin and lightning support? “in an April 25th post on X. Ignoring the most significant cryptocurrency seems like a mistake.

An anonymous cryptocurrency dealer named MartyParty also expressed dissatisfaction to his 80,700 X followers on April 26, writing, “Not satisfied Google is terribly behind.”

On the other hand, there were those who were hopeful about the launch. In a post on X dated April 25, Mitroplus labs founder Ivaibi Festo praised the Web3 site as an extensive resource.

In order to facilitate the deployment and testing of decentralized apps on the Ethereum testnets Sepolia and Holesky, the portal gives developers access to a variety of goods and supplies testnet tokens.

More than that, it runs a training programmed with lessons on building NFTs, implementing Web3 loyalty programmed, and protecting digital assets using multi-party computation.

This endeavor is a continuation of Google’s previous achievements in the Web3 domain. Notably, Google improved its features so that users may search for wallet balances on several blockchains, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom.

In addition, at the beginning of 2024, Google changed its advertising regulations to allow the promotion of specific cryptocurrency products on its main search engine, including Bitcoin ETFs.

In order to solidify its position in the Web3 ecosystem, Google prioritized partnership formation prior to this year’s portal launch.

Web3 projects and customers were able to benefit from powerful data analytics and AI features made possible by the integration of Google Cloud’s BigQuery data warehouse with MultiversX in October 2023.

Adding eleven blockchain networks to its data warehouse, BigQuery on the Google Cloud Platform added support for Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon’s mainnet, Polygon’s Mumbai testnet, and Tron in September 2023.
