Bitfinex Addresses Claims of Data and Password Leaks Impacting Hundreds of Thousands of Users

In response to claims that Bitfinex, a cryptocurrency exchange, had a data breach, the company’s chief technology officer provided a statement.

The research firm Shinoji Research announced accusations that 2.5 terabytes of data had been stolen from the crypto exchange Bitfinex by hackers. The ransomware organisation known as Fsociety claimed responsibility for the purported breach.

Bitfinex and Tether co-CEO Paolo Ardoino has addressed the matter, stating that the attack “appears to be fake” and that the money is secure. Everyone is on edge since Bitfinex could have suffered a database hack. In a nutshell, it seems to be fake.

The reported hackers leaked 2 gigabyte links comprising 22,500 records of email addresses and passwords. Bitfinex users only make up 5,000 out of 22,500 emails.

There was no communication from the so-called hackers. They would have a bug bounty, a customer support request, etc., if they had any actual information. As a ransom, they would demand payment via There did not seem to be any requests.

A number of security experts wasted little time getting the news out about the hack. It seems that hackers have amassed a database of email addresses and passwords from several crypto dumps. Tragically, the majority of users reuse their email addresses and passwords across many platforms. “No breaches have been identified at this time, and we are constantly analyzing our systems.”

Additionally, mass downloading is not possible due to the KYC platform’s significant rate constraint. This is completely unfounded and frightening, but we will keep looking into it to be sure.
