Elon Musk Declares the xAI Chatbot “The Finest Existing Currently”

In an effort to compete with OpenAI and ChatGPT, Elon Musk is now making xAI available to a limited number of customers.

Elon Musk has announced that his rival tech firm, xAI, will release a beta version of its chatbot to a select group of customers this coming Saturday, making good on his threat to compete with OpenAI, a company he co-founded in 2015 but subsequently quit.

Musk announced the release of xAI’s first artificial intelligence to a small number of users on X (previously Twitter) on Monday.

Since OpenAI’s public launch of ChatGPT last fall, AI has exploded into the mainstream, attracting billions of dollars in investment from tech giants like Microsoft and Google and gobbling up an increasing share of global investment and venture funding.

In July, Musk announced the creation of xAI, clarifying that the firm is distinct from X Corp but would collaborate closely with Twitter, which he acquired for $44 billion in April 2022. In a Twitter Spaces chat, Musk laid out the idea for the new AI start-up, including an emphasis on openness and the importance of honesty above preconceptions.

According to Musk at the time, The main goal of xAI is to build a good AI that can understand the world. One kind of AI is known as artificial general intelligence (AGI), and it can learn and carry out any mental work a person can. AGI has a wider knowledge, like a human brain, than specialized AI, which excels at a single activity. However, reaching AGI is difficult and has yet to be accomplished.
