Coca-Cola and Microsoft fund generative AI venture with $1.1 billion
The Coca-Cola Company and its global network of independent bottlers will benefit from Microsoft’s AI innovation efforts via Azure OpenAI Service and Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Microsoft and The Coca-Cola Company have inked a five-year agreement to collaborate on AI use cases for different parts of the company’s operations.
The generative AI and cloud capabilities of Microsoft Cloud were the focus of a $1.1 billion investment by Coca-Cola. “To build unique generative AI use cases across diverse business areas,” the partners will reportedly work together to experiment with Azure OpenAI Service and other technologies (as announced on April 23).
On top of that, the businesses will try out the Microsoft Copilot AI assistant as part of Microsoft 365 to see if it helps boost productivity at work.
Coca-Cola moved all of its apps to Microsoft Azure as a component of the initiative. Speaking on behalf of Microsoft, Judson Althoff, VP and COO, stated:
“The Coca-Cola Company and its global network of independent bottlers have been able to expedite system-wide AI transformation thanks to our long-term cooperation.”
Coca-Cola is investigating the potential of digital assistants driven by generative AI to enhance customer experience performance metrics, simplify processes, and boost efficiency with Azure OpenAI Service.
Beginning in 2020 with a $250 million pact, Coca-Cola and Microsoft have been working together on artificial intelligence since then. “Microsoft’s capabilities enable us to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence, which in turn creates additional business value,” said Neeraj Tolmare, senior vice president and global chief information officer for The Coca-Cola Company.
Mustafa Suleyman, executive vice president and chief executive officer of Microsoft AI, announced the company’s intentions to make a “substantial, long-term investment” in the UK on April 9 as they begin to seek prospective candidates in the area.
As stated by Suleyman in a blog post, “As we start recruiting top AI scientists and engineers to join our new AI centre, Microsoft AI intends to make a substantial, long-term investment in the United Kingdom, which is home to an enormous supply of AI talent and knowledge.”
While announcing the establishment of an AI centre in the UK, Suleyman made the following remarks:. Improving AI language models and their supporting infrastructure is the primary objective of the centre.
It would also work with its AI teams located all over the world and partners like OpenAI to develop foundation model tools.
