Russian man was charged with treason for sending cryptocurrency to the military in Ukraine
In Komsomolsk-on-Amur, a city in the Far East of Russia, an unidentified individual has been apprehended on charges of high treason for allegedly transferring cryptocurrency to the Ukrainian military.
According to the Russian official media outlet Izvestia, the funds were allegedly supposed to be used for the purchase of weapons, ammunition, and army uniforms.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) has made public a video of the arrest, which shows officers holding the guy in a compelled manner.
Following a similar incident that occurred on September 17, a guy in Mariupol was arrested and charged with high treason for allegedly giving Ukraine’s intelligence with vital information regarding the whereabouts of Russian troops. This arrest comes after the same incident.
There is still a lack of clarity on the possible penalties for these people. In 2017, scientist Alexander Shiplyuk disclosed sensitive information on the missile program to German intelligence, which resulted in his receiving a sentence of fifteen years in prison for “state treason.”
During the month of May, his colleague Anatoly Maslov was also found guilty of the same offences and sentenced to fourteen years in prison. Upon his release, Maslov will be 90 years old if he had to live.
