Red Dog, a Bitcoin mining company sued over the facility’s excessive noise

Neighbors of a bitcoin mining business in Tennessee are suing over the facility’s excessive noise. The August complaint seeks to compel mining company Red Dog to cease operations and pay personal damages costs, as well as compensate property owners for diminished property values. The action may serve as a precedent for future lawsuits, as Bitcoin mining firms attempt to expand into previously unrecognized zones.

Red Dog Technologies, the proprietor of a Bitcoin mining business in the United States of America’s state of Tennessee, is being sued by a resident of a nearby neighborhood for the level of noise generated by the operation. According to local media reports, the lawsuit alleges that the mine’s noise creates an environment that “unreasonably interferes” with the plaintiff’s “use and pleasure” of his property.

Concerns about the mine’s upsetting residents and the operation’s legality have previously been brought to the attention of Washington County Mayor Joe Grandy, who was notified of the situation in June. Apparently, the mine violated the area’s zoning regulations for bitcoin mining activities. Last summer, Red Dog allegedly attempted to mitigate the noise, but commissioners were unsatisfied.

A Significant Lawsuit

While some may dismiss this action as another standard complaint, it is significant because it has the potential to establish a precedent for similar lawsuits in areas previously neglected by mining corporations. The lawsuit is centered on a rezoning application submitted to the county by Brightridge, the power company that rents the land to Red Dog, the mine operator, in order to operate the facility (identified as a blockchain data center) in the zone.

According to the complaint, the rezoning proposal, which proposes to alter the zone type from General Agriculture to Agriculture Business, is not sufficiently precise to be deemed legitimate. According to the request, “although tiny fans on the data centers produce noise, the petitioner has indicated that the noise is deemed minimal and would not be heard or felt from adjacent premises.”

The present lawsuit may end in the shutdown of the bitcoin mining facility, as the county’s planning commission unanimously decided to close the mine and take legal action against the operator if the business does not comply.
