Mossad, Israel’s Intelligence Agency Looking for Crypto Expert

According to reports, Israel’s national intelligence agency, Mossad, is looking for experts in the cryptocurrency and financial technologies.

According to local media reports, the state intelligence agency is on the lookout for financial technology professionals. The reason is reportedly to enable it to make anonymous payments to agents and purchase equipment using cryptocurrencies.

The news was first reported by Ynet, a leading Israeli news outlet, on August 8. According to a translation, this is the first time the institution has advertised for a cryptocurrency specialist.

Mossad to use Bitcoin?

Mossad is in charge of intelligence gathering, covert operations, and counter-terrorism in Israel, so a move into cryptography makes sense. The job description indicates that the organization is seeking a technological innovator in the field of fintech and digital currencies. The position requires three years of experience in the world of fintech, including leading, initiating, planning, and accompanying system development activities.

Ynet reports that the agency is also looking for a business consultant for a “challenging and dynamic role.” These are not the only positions advertised by the agency. Mossad is also looking for someone who can develop unique mechanical means for a position that includes “planning, developing, manufacturing, implementing, writing product portfolios, training, managing product methodology, and performing mechanical integration for complex assemblies.” It all sounds very James Bond, as they are also looking for a cyber-researcher with expertise in the field of cameras.

The use of cryptocurrencies for anonymous payments is precisely what the majority of countries, most notably the United States, have been attempting to suppress. Bitcoin, which again reached $45K this weekend, is not the best option for this unless mixing services are also utilized. Monero (XMR) is a better fit because it incorporates these features into its blockchain. Naturally, the intelligence agency made no mention of any of this, including the reported interest in or potential use of cryptocurrencies.

CryptoPotato reported that Israel’s National Bureau for Counter-Terrorism Financing had ordered the seizure of 84 crypto addresses believed to be associated with Hamas. The Islamic terrorist group allegedly used a variety of cryptocurrencies, including Tether, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and others, with wallets receiving over $7.7 million in crypto assets.
