leading American news organization has partnered with Chainlink ($LINK)
The Associated Press (AP), a non-profit news organization in the United States, announced a partnership with decentralized oracle network Chainlink to “assist in bringing economic, sports, and race call data onto blockchains, the decentralized computer networks for permanently recording information.”
On October 21, AP issued a blog post about this development that included an interview with Dwayne Desaulniers, AP’s director of blockchain and data licensing.
According to Desaulniers, Chainlink is “the conduit via which AP will guarantee that our news and data can be consumed by blockchain apps and services.”
When asked how developers would get AP data, he responded: “Developers creating blockchain-based apps will be able to access the AP data and information they need through the AP Chainlink node. For instance, developers creating a blockchain application may need a quarterly GDP number in order to automate a transaction, while developers creating a blockchain-based sports application may require scores, schedules, or the most recent injury reports in order to establish a fantasy sports game. AP will publish this kind of data on-chain for access by various apps.” Asked why AP wanted to publish its news on the blockchain, he stated:
“Trust. The core purpose of a blockchain is to be a publicly accessible, safe, and secure record of verified information. Because AP is such an important source for fact-based and trusted information around the world, we see this as an opportunity to provide blockchain users with data and info they can trust. We believe that blockchain networks are a fundamentally important technology because they not only allow but demand veracity.“
Finally, he detailed what further data AP intends to place on the blockchain in the future: “That is very dependent on what developers and artists want in terms of trustworthy data and knowledge. We are aware that financial and sports data are in high demand at the moment. Additionally, we’ve discovered that correct election race predictions are in high demand for new sorts of prediction markets. With Chainlink, we’ll be able to monitor the blockchain economy’s pulse and meet data demands as they change.”
