Friend Tech Hacked and Leaked 100,000 Ethereum Wallet Addresses
According to Banteg, the breach affected more than 101,00 Friend.tech users’ personal information.
Recently popular in the crypto world, the Friend.tech project is currently plagued by security issues and data breaches.
More than 101,000 Friend.tech users had their information exposed, including Ethereum wallet addresses and Twitter handles, according to a report by The Block citing Banteg, one of the creators of Yearn Finance under a false identity.
Banteg also cautioned that the permissions users provide when signing up for friend.tech might allow other parties to post on their behalf.
The brand-new social software friend.tech operates on the blockchain and enables users to sell “shares” to their followers. When an investor purchases a share in a company, they have access to the company’s private messaging system and the opportunity to communicate with the company’s most popular employees.
Launched on August 10, 2023, friend.tech is a software that works on Ethereum layer-2 solution Base developed by Coinbase.
The minimum amount of Ethereum (ETH) that users must deposit on the Base network in order to get access to the platform is 0.01 ETH.
At this time, it is believed that the ETHs transferred across the Base network in order to access friend.tech was the source of the exposed addresses.
