Elon Musk’s Associate Joins the Advisory Board of the Dogecoin Foundation
The Dogecoin Foundation, the non-profit organization founded in 2014 by the meme cryptocurrency’s creators, has been reactivated.
It will be run by members of the OG community, including Jens Wiechers, Gary Lachance, Ross Nicoll, the developer of Dogecoin Core, and other famous Dogecoiners. Its advisory board includes famous figures such as Jared Birchall, a long-time Elon Musk collaborator, and CEO of Neuralink, Billy Markus, co-founder of Dogecoin, and Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum.
Birchall, who has previously served as the head of Musk‘s family office, will serve as the foundation’s legal and financial advisor. The Dogecoin Foundation’s goal is to develop a network of annual sponsors who will contribute to its initiatives. According to the entity, it remains committed to its original mission of fostering the Dogecoin ecosystem and safeguarding the brand:
The Foundation holds the Dogecoin mark and the Dogecoin Logo and will maintain them for the community. This will mean the Foundation can continue to protect the Dogecoin Brand and allow (under a very liberal license) the ability to use it for Dogecoin-related memes, projects and fun. — We’ve got your back on this one.
Olympic Winter Games and Doge4water
While Dogecoin clearly dominated crypto news coverage throughout this bull cycle, it achieved its first mainstream media coverage during its early days.
In 2014, the newly formed foundation assisted in raising finances for the Jamaican bobsleigh squad, who qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi but was unable to attend due to financial constraints. The effort garnered attention from prominent sources such as The Guardian, NPR, and CNET. The Doge4Water fundraising drive was another success, this time aimed at resolving Kenya’s water crisis.
