Binance CEO Slams Gambaryan for ‘Inhumane Treatment’ After Unsettling Video
The health of Tigran Gambaryan is deteriorating, which is increasing the Binance vs. Nigeria saga. Since contracting malaria in May, the executive in custody has experienced an unexpected drop in his health.
The most recent development is the emergence of a new alarming video of Gambaryan, which illustrates the executive’s fragile condition and the severe treatment he has endured. The CEO of the exchange denounced the Nigerian authorities and urged for Gambaryan’s immediate release.
Binance’s CEO, Richard Teng, expressed his opinion on the Nigerian authorities’ treatment of Tigran Gambaryan on Tuesday. On Monday, Teng responded to a video on X that captured the executive’s severe treatment by security as he attempted to proceed to court.
According to the disturbing video, Gambaryan may be experiencing difficulty walking with supports as a result of spinal issues. Binance’s chief of criminal compliance requests an explanation for the guard’s refusal to provide him with a wheelchair.
Additionally, the executive who was detained claimed that the officer was instructed not to assist him. The officer who accompanied him stated that Gambaryan was capable of walking and needed to “manage himself.”
Richard Teng shared the video, describing the executive’s treatment as “inhumane.” The CEO demanded the cessation of this treatment and requested Gambaryan’s immediate release, emphasizing that he should return home to receive the appropriate medical care.
The responses also conveyed the crypto community’s rejection of the situation. Gambaryan is likely “terrified and exhausted,” according to a community member who termed the executive’s severe treatment “insane.”
A second X user expressed concern regarding his treatment as a criminal and suggested that the “Nigerian Government is merely using him as leverage,” a sentiment that had previously been expressed by Binance’s CEO.
Bitcoinist reported that Teng denounced the manner in which Nigerian authorities managed Binance’s case in late April. To the CEO, the government employed a mid-level employee as a weapon against the crypto exchange, and he argued that this could “establish a risky new precedent for all companies worldwide.”
The health of Gambaryan has been a pressing concern for both his family and the community. In May, the executive tested positive for malaria; however, the prison officers denied him access to sufficient medical therapy.
Gambaryan was ordered to be hospitalized for appropriate treatment subsequent to his health episode by a magistrate. Nevertheless, a visit from US representatives revealed that his condition had deteriorated, as he was still not receiving the requisite medical treatment, despite the court’s ruling.
In late June, US representatives French Hill and Chrissy Houlahan joined the chorus of voices advocating for Gambaryan’s immediate release after witnessing the Binance executive’s ongoing struggle with double pneumonia and malarial symptoms. The politicians observed that he had lost a substantial amount of weight and had not been transported to a medical facility during their visit.
