Discord May Soon Add Ethereum (ETH) Support

Discord, the popular social network platform, maybe add Ethereum (ETH) compatibility shortly, as the company’s CEO Jason Citron said in a recent tweet.

Citron shared a screenshot of the Discord settings page demonstrating the integration of Ethereum, along with the famous remark “probably nothing,” which is frequently repeated in the aftermath of important crypto events.

The Ethereum integration predictions seem nearly true since the screenshot also shows users being able to add $ETH using Metamask and the chain-agnostic wallet connector WalletConnect. These settings were not available until Tuesday AM on the Discord app. As a result, it is evident that the screenshot was taken by a development team.

Despite the market being cluttered with various social network platforms, Discord has rapidly risen to the top among social interaction platforms. Many believe it is the potential social network of web 3.0, dubbed “Web 3.0 sleeper” by one expert, owing to its popularity among the crypto community and its growing global usage. The platform was first built with gamers in mind but quickly gained traction with the cryptocurrency community as well.

Will Others Follow in the Footsteps of Discord?

This year, cryptocurrency has become fully popular, not merely because it is widely acknowledged and governments are developing inclusive legislation to support its use, but also because individuals have recognized its true value. Miami Mayor Carlos Gimenez and New York City Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio both indicated last week that they would accept Bitcoin as payment for their salaries.

While Discord may add Ethereum support in the near future, Twitter recently announced support for Bitcoin tipping via the lightning network, and Reddit now offers to tip. Given the rapid adoption of cryptocurrency on online platforms, it’s possible that many more social networks will follow Discord’s lead. Crypto adoption has resulted in a domino effect, whereby when one company or country implements crypto support, several others do the same.
