Kraken Introduces a Regulated Crypto Brokerage for Institutional Investors in Australia
Kraken has introduced a regulated brokerage service in Australia that serves institutional and high-net-worth clients, with an emphasis on crypto derivatives.
This new product allows Australian wholesale clients to trade derivatives based on cryptocurrency prices, thereby enabling price exposure without the necessity of direct asset ownership. This feature has been accessible to eligible clients through the Kraken Pro app since November 3, during which time they may also enroll or verify their eligibility.
Kraken’s expansion into Australia is a testament to its dedication to institutional investors and compliance with local regulations. The service offers sophisticated trading options that support multiple collaterals, including fiat, stablecoins, and other cryptocurrencies.
Furthermore, Kraken provides risk management tools that are specifically designed to safeguard assets. However, it is important to note that derivative trading may involve risks of loss that exceed the initial investment.
Jonathan Miller, the General Manager of Kraken Australia, underscored the importance of this introduction, referring to Australia as a “cornerstone” of Kraken’s global operations. He observed that the new service meets the demand for sophisticated trading options and is indicative of Kraken’s regulatory commitment.
Separately, Kraken is gearing up to introduce its blockchain, “Ink,” in early 2025. The objective of this platform is to facilitate DeFi for users by enabling direct trading, borrowing, and lending without intermediaries. This correlates with Kraken’s broader transition to Web3 and decentralized finance (DeFi).
