The South Korean government is requesting that Interpol release Do Kwon

Do Kwon’s case is becoming more heated as South Korea seeks assistance from Interpol.

The National Police Agency of South Korea has requested that Interpol return Do Kwon, co-founder of Terraform Labs, to South Korea. Kwon is facing many charges related to his alleged participation in the demise of the Terra and Luna cryptocurrencies.

This new information follows Do Kwon’s March 5 victory in an appeal against a March 4 high court decision authorizing his extradition from Montenegro to the United States. The Appellate Court of Montenegro reversed the decision and remanded the case for a new trial, citing serious infractions of the criminal process.

Following the successful extradition of Terra’s former CFO from Montenegro last month, the National Police Agency is once again determined to apprehend Do Kwon, the former CEO of the company, as the case returns to a retrial and gives an opportunity for his extradition to South Korea.

Local media outlets have reported that on March 7, the agency contacted the South Korean Interpol Secretariat via telegraph to request their assistance in extraditing Do Kwon.

“The National Police Agency and the Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Division are collaborating to return Mr. Kwon via the International Cooperation Line of Interpol and the International Criminal Cooperation Channel, respectively.” One of the officers mentioned in the report was Lee Yong-sang.

The Ministry of Justice is hopeful about the action and is expecting a “notice” from Interpol “when the repatriation decision is confirmed.” However, Interpol has not yet responded to the request.

Reportedly, Do Kwon organized the “Terra Luna Incident,” which devastated the cryptocurrency market worldwide and affected 200,000 individuals in the United States. This event wiped away billions of dollars.
