The prosecutor tries to limit SBF After apparent efforts to influence witnesses

Former FTX founder and CEO Sam Bankman-Fried seem to have sought to influence a witness in the exchange’s collapse case, according to a letter from prosecutors to the court.

Prosecutors aim to restrict Bankman-access Fried’s to encrypted messaging platforms and his ability to contact current and past workers of firms he created.

According to court records, U.S. Attorneys seek to limit FTX founder and former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried’s access to encrypted messaging platforms and ban his connection with former FTX and Alameda workers on the grounds that he attempted to influence witnesses.

Prosecutors in the United States assert Bankman-Fried’s texts were “suggestive of an attempt to influence” a witness’s evidence. The witness allegedly got orders through the encrypted messaging application Signal to “liquidate Alameda’s investments to fulfil FTX client withdrawals” in November to plug a $45 million deficit in FTX US’s balance sheet.

Officials assert that he also talked directly with the current general counsel of FTX US, who may be a prosecution witness.

The statement states that Bankman-Fried spoke with current and former FTX workers through email and Signal, which is consistent with his “habit of utilizing the program for obstructive objectives.”

The present bail for the deposed CEO sets no restrictions on contacting potential witnesses in the ongoing investigation.
