Telegram will provide a mini-app store and an in-app web3 browser this month
Telegram intends to introduce a mini-app store and an in-app web3 browser. It coincides with an increase in the popularity of games that require players to tap in order to gain points, such as Hamster Kombat.
Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov has announced that the company intends to launch a store for Telegram micro applications and an in-app web3 browser later this month. The action follows a significant increase in the number of tap-to-earn games, such as Hamster Kombat, that have been developed on the messaging platform.
Telegram employs “mini-apps,” which are web applications that operate within the social network. These applications enable the direct introduction of crypto initiatives within Telegram. The applications are accessible to users without the need to install them on their devices.
Durov has previously stated that businesses have been utilizing mini-apps to sell tangible products on Telegram for many years. The platform reports that over 400 million individuals engage with the applications on a monthly basis.
Durov stated in his Telegram post that “[hundreds of millions of individuals] will become conversant with blockchain” in 2024. “We are pleased that Telegram is at the forefront of this societal transformation,” he continued.
Nearly one billion individuals worldwide utilize Telegram. The platform, in conjunction with its TON blockchain, has functioned as a central center for “clicker games” such as Notcoin, Tapswap, and Hamster Kombat. The games, which compensate individuals for touching their smartphone displays, have become immensely popular. Hamster Kombat alone asserts that it has a participant base of more than 250 million.
Since its inception in April, Notcoin has generated over $1.2 billion in trading volume, which has contributed to the model’s popularity. When Notcoin generated its token earlier this year, approximately one million purses joined The Open Network (TON).
Durov stated, “In order to maintain the momentum, we will be introducing a micro app store and an in-app browser that supports web3-pages this month.”
