Telegram Introduces a new feature that enables users to convert digital gifts into NFTs

The new feature is indicative of the increasing trend of incorporating digital assets into mainstream platforms.

Telegram intends to enable users to convert their digital donations into non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as detailed in a Jan. 1 update.

The new feature enables users to generate and personalize NFTs, which are unique digital assets that are stored on a blockchain and possess unique characteristics. It is possible to trade or auction these distinctive collectibles on NFT marketplaces, as described in a blog post.

This incorporation of blockchain technology into Telegram indicates a broader trend toward the integration of decentralized assets into conventional platforms, offering users new methods of exchanging and monetizing digital items.

The blog post states that upgrading a gift reveals a new appearance from dozens of custom variations created by Telegram artists. The secondary characteristics that collectibles receive are also arbitrary, and they include a background color, icon, and number. This implies that each collectible gift is a distinctive work of art, and that some will be more scarce than others.

Although Telegram initially created the TON blockchain, it is currently managed by an autonomous community. Telegram has implemented a number of supplementary updates, such as improved Message Search Filters that allow users to refine search results by private conversations, groups, or channels. In addition, service messages, including notifications for new group members, gifts, or video chats, now support reactions, enabling users to respond promptly with a single swipe.

Furthermore, the messaging platform has implemented third-party verification, which enables organizations and public figures to obtain verification. This encompasses the addition of additional indicators to accounts and conversations to enhance transparency.

“Telegram’s blog post states that this decentralized platform for additional verification will aid in the prevention of frauds and the reduction of misinformation, with a distinctive proactive solution that establishes a new safety standard for social platforms.”
