Sony has partnered with Startale to introduce Soneium blockchain
Sony has declared the commencement of its blockchain, which it has named “Soneium.”
Sony Group has declared the commencement of its own blockchain. In partnership with Singapore-based Startale Labs, the blockchain is known as ‘Soneium’.
The infrastructure of Soneium was provided by industry households such as Circle, Chainlink, Alchemy, Astar Network, and The Graph, and it is constructed on Optimism’s Superchain.
The new Ethereum layer-2 network is intended to address the prevalent challenges that impede the adoption of blockchain technology, including scalability and efficiency. Sota Watanabe, the CEO of Startale Labs, has unveiled a three-phase strategy for the new blockchain.
The primary objective will be to draw the attention of web3 developers and enthusiasts. Subsequently, Sony Bank, Sony Music, and Sony Pictures will provide integration capabilities. Watanabe declared that the platform’s ultimate objective is to enable enterprises and dApps to adopt it.
“We will endeavor to establish a variety of enterprises and novel use cases in order to reach the maximum number of users,” stated Watanabe.
In accordance with its press release, Sony intends to establish a Soneium testnet in collaboration with Astar Network. Astar zkEVM will integrate its assets and infrastructure with Soneium after the testnet.
The testnet will provide a comprehensive testnet framework and a diverse ecosystem. Furthermore, they will provide developers with convenient built-in tools.
Watanabe underscored the robust distribution channels of Sony Group across a variety of industries. Additionally, he declared that they would use Soneium to create a product that is in demand and expand beyond the realm of web3.
Chief business officer Johan Eid of Chainlink also commented on the blockchain launch, asserting that the introduction of Solenium is a strong indicator of the ongoing developments in the blockchain industry.
Nevertheless, this is not Sony’s initial venture into the cryptocurrency sector. In August 2023, Amber Group acquired a cryptocurrency exchange known as Whalefin from Sony. In July, the exchange issued a notification announcing its rebranding as S.BLOX. At present, the precise date of the exchange’s debut is uncertain.
In July, Watanabe published a post on X regarding the Soneium blockchain launch, indicating that the plan was established nearly 1.5 years ago and is currently in the execution phase.
