Sandeep Nailwal has verified the mainnet date of Polygon’s Agglayer

Agglayer, a highly anticipated modular cross-blockchain ecosystem, has achieved a significant testing milestone.

In the early months of 2025, the Polygon (POL) ecosystem will introduce Agglayer, a decentralized cross-network connectivity protocol. Sandeep Nailwal, the co-founder of Polygon (POL), published the official statement on his X profile, which has 332,000 followers.

On December 20, 2024, the blockchain activated its testnet v0.2. The implementation of pessimistic proofs will be the primary focus of this stress-testing phase, as they are essential for the unification of EVM chains through Agglayer, irrespective of the stack they utilize.

The Polygon (POL) team emphasized the importance of conducting experiments with pessimistic proofs to ensure that the value transfer between the various components of Agglayer is credible and tamper-proof.

The pessimistic proof, which tracks cross-chain balances, cryptographically ensures safety, allowing chains to securely transact and transmit messages.

In 2024, the Polygon (POL) ecosystem will undergo a fundamental transformation as it transitions to Agglayer. The forthcoming meta-blockchain will revolutionize the manner in which various blockchains on EVM and beyond interact with one another.

POL, a fundamental asset of the new ecosystem, replaces MATIC as a gas currency on Polygon, thereby establishing the tokenomic basis for the transition.

Agglayer’s primary applications include DeFi, gaming, RWAs, and AI+DePIN. Additionally, the Agglayer developers alluded to the possibility of Solana (SOL), the primary competitor of Polygon (POL), becoming a part of Agglayer’s mechanism last week.

Agglayer provided a summary of the primary use cases it intends to address on December 19. Agglayer will be the preferred choice for DeFis to eradicate liquidity fragmentation due to its distinctive cross-chain connection opportunities.

Additionally, it will create a cost-effective conglomerate of gaming-centric blockchains, such as Ronin Network and ImmutableX, to facilitate the next iteration of GameFi innovations.

For the RWAs sector, Agglayer will make it possible for fractionalized ownership to work on multiple blockchains at the same time.

Finally, the new ecosystem will significantly enhance AI and DePIN networks by enabling the management of data-intensive dApps across chains.
