OpenSea Launches ‘Get Based’ Ethereum L2 Series With Free NFT Releases
Every week, OpenSea and Farcaster will announce the sale of digital art NFT mints on the Ethereum scaling network Base for $5 or even free.
OpenSea, an NFT marketplace, plans on introducing “Get Based,” a series of free or low-cost digital artwork releases, as Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 scaling network Base begins to acquire momentum.
The “Get Based” series is scheduled to include pieces by up to fifteen artists during the summer and will begin on Thursday with a mint of a reinterpretation of the iconic “Endless Summer” film poster by artist and OpenSea staffer Carty Sewell.
Each open edition drop will cost $5 or less, with some being free, and will occur weekly via OpenSea’s website and frames on the social media protocol Farcaster.
“Get Based” will also feature the following artists and projects: Jhekub of RGB Punks, Hun of “Primitives,” Cryptic Poet of memes, Yiying Lu of Twitter’s “Fail Whale,” Subwway of illustration, and Thank You Base God, who led a recent free Base NFT mint on OpenSea that produced over 181,000 mints.
In the last few months, OpenSea has shifted its attention to Base, a layer-1 chain that lacks established, high-value collections compared to layer-1 networks like Ethereum mainnet or Solana. This is because the marketplace is embracing the emerging NFT sector on this chain.
As a way to expose collectors to Base and its new artists, “Get Based” is in the works. In addition to native asset bridging to Base, OpenSea also integrates with MoonPay, allowing users to pay using fiat money and credit cards.
According to Devin Finzer, co-founder and CEO of OpenSea, who spoke with Decrypt, “The Base ecosystem has proved to be a driver for new usefulness and innovation leveraging NFTs.” “Base has had our full backing from the beginning, and we can’t wait to showcase emerging artists with fresh perspectives and help them establish themselves in the NFT community.”
The “Get Based” series will coincide with Base’s forthcoming “On-Chain Summer II” promotion, which commences on June 3 and features over 600 ETH (nearly $2.3 million) in prizes, incentives, and gas credits across a variety of projects and protocols. OpenSea was a Base launch partner and took part in the campaign last year.
