Nokia’s 2030 Strategy Aims to Extend the Metaverse

There will be a dramatic increase in the demand for Nokia’s networks by 2030, thanks to developments in the metaverse, Web3, and AI.

The study on the company’s Technology Strategy 2030 details their intentions to invest in network infrastructure and services to meet this rising demand.

The increasing popularity of generative AI and VR devices is driving a significant 22%–25% increase in network demand from 2022 to 2030, according to Nokia. The head of Nokia’s network infrastructure, Federico Guillén, says that these technologies’ recent mainstream introduction is to blame for this increase.

Organizations and service providers will embrace technologies that greatly increase network traffic needs as the line between the digital and physical worlds becomes more blurry.

Nokia intends to invest a lot of funds into its network equipment and services portfolio in the next few years to handle this expected demand boom.

Focusing on the Internet of Value, decentralization, blockchain, and smart contracts, the firm intends to serve a variety of developing ecosystems.

Nokia is also preparing to take advantage of metaverse prospects, particularly in the areas of split processing, spatial computing, and human enhancement.

Nokia has set up two research centers to explore the metaverse and the technologies that support it, in accordance with its long-term goals.

The business has also tried its hand at a number of large-scale metaverse projects, including ones that used augmented reality to improve aircraft maintenance.

Notable efforts included the use of a 5G-connected Microsoft HoloLens to educate Cessna mechanics remotely. This fresh method shows that augmented reality may be useful for technicians working at faraway airports.

In order to reduce complexity and open up new possibilities by improving synergy between the digital, physical, and human realms, Nokia’s first strategy is to investigate important new trends and determine an appropriate set of network technologies.

According to the Technology Strategy 2030, some of the most important themes that will determine the future include cloud computing, artificial intelligence, the metaverse, the internet of value, industry 5.0, and API networks.

Nokia predicts that the number of linked devices will skyrocket by 2030, leading to widespread use of the metaverse in consumer, business, and industrial settings.

Businesses and distributor systems will be able to communicate in real-time, which will revolutionize supply planning and estimating. This will also cause significant changes to industrial facilities and supply chains. Design, testing, real-time monitoring, and remote maintenance are just a few of the industrial tasks that the metaverse is going to completely transform.

Additionally, businesses are seeing the rise of Web3, an Internet infrastructure that is decentralized and user-centric, built on blockchain technology. The analysis by Nokia highlighted the fact that enterprises’ digital transformation journeys now demand cloud computing and powerful AI.

Nevertheless, in the next few years, there will likely be even more of an uptick in the implementation of multi-cloud architecture and the use of devices integrated with AI to create innovative business models.
