Kamala Harris Openly Supports Cryptocurrency to Win Over Black Men

Vice President Kamala Harris is currently advocating for a regulatory framework that would “protect” American crypto holders.

Kamala Harris’ campaign launched an explicit pro-digital assets agenda on Monday, as part of a platform that targets Black male voters, after months of cautiously discussing the topic of crypto.

The platform “Kamala Harris Will Deliver for Black Men” includes a pledge from the Vice President that, if elected, she would implement “a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency and other digital assets to ensure the protection of Black men who invest in and own these assets.”

The document goes on to explain that Harris “understands the potential of new technologies to expand access to banking and financial services” and that she will ensure that “owners of and investors in digital assets benefit from a regulatory framework to ensure the protection of Black men and others who participate in this market.”

These statements are undoubtedly the most explicit pro-crypto positions that Harris or her campaign has ever put forth. In the past, the Democratic presidential nominee had only ever mentioned the industry in passing. Former president Donald Trump, her opponent, has been advocating for concrete pro-crypto policies for months, but she has never made any commitments to them.

It is noteworthy that Harris has finally taken a full-throated stance on the issue, and that she has done so within the specific context of attempting to attract Black male voters—a demographic that has been essential to Democrats for a long time, but that the Harris campaign has recently expressed concern about losing ground with in 2024.

Harris is currently endeavoring to gain the support of Black males by offering a variety of incentives, including pro-crypto policy. Other commitments outlined in Monday’s policy document include the legalization of marijuana, the provision of one million wholly forgivable loans to Black entrepreneurs, and the establishment of specialized education, training, and mentorship programs to help Black males secure high-paying positions in high-demand industries.
