The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau has announced its capture of a number of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Monero, in addition to a luxury watch with a value of €120,000 ($131,000) and two automobiles with a combined value of €220,000 ($240,000).
A 23-year-old man, a 49-year-old man, and a 32-year-old woman were apprehended during the raid that occurred on Monday. According to the allegations, the males are suspected of providing assistance to a criminal organization, while the woman is accused of violating money laundering laws.
In his description of the operation, Detective Superintendent Michael Mullen said that it was the outcome of a complicated investigation investigating activity on the dark web. It has been reported by the BBC that the elder guy and the lady have been freed awaiting the completion of further legal proceedings, while the younger man is still being held in jail.
This operation is an addition to Ireland’s efforts in recovering crypto assets tied to illegal activity. It joins similar actions in the United Kingdom, which has seized 61,245 bitcoins with a total value of $3.5 billion. It is the judicial conclusion of the case that will decide how the crypto that was seized will be handled in the future.
