Finder.com offers Bitcoin to those vaccinated against Covid
Finder.com CEO Fred Schebesta is providing an Australian who gets fully vaccinated against Covid-19 AU$5 (US$2.85) in Bitcoin.
The self-made millionaire announced the plan on Sydney radio this week, saying he was looking for a way to contribute to the vaccine campaign and believed this would be a way to help. Anyone who has received two doses of the available vaccine, or who will receive them in the near future, is welcome to apply for the Bitcoin award by installing the Finder.com app and presenting proof of immunization.
Finder.com is a product and service comparison website that offers advice and information on a variety of products and services. It does industry analyses in Australia and throughout the world. One of its latest studies suggested that Southeast Asian countries are dominating the world in terms of cryptocurrency adoption, while another revealed that the gender divide in Australian cryptocurrency investment is shrinking.
If every eligible person in Australia’s more than 20 million population applies, Schebesta may be on the hook for more than AU$100 million (US$71.15 million), a sum he looks willing to pay. “Get vaccinated, baby, and also get your Bitcoin, baby!” Schebesta stated live on the air.
In Australia, the speed with which vaccines are being rolled out has been a point of dispute, as less than 30% of the population over the age of 16 is completely vaccinated. Poor uptake has been attributed to supply chain concerns and a lack of communication between the federal government and the states and territories. Schebesta hopes to address vaccine hesitancy as well. By comparison, 62% of adults over the age of 18 in the United States are vaccinated. Schebesta posted an Op-Ed for Forkast.News in May about his market forecasts.
