Crypto.com, a Singapore-based cryptocurrency exchange, has announced a multi-year partnership with Los Angeles’s Angel City Football Club (ACFC).

According to a report by The Block, Crypto.com has inked an exclusive four-year arrangement to serve as a founding partner of ACFC, a Los Angeles professional women’s soccer club. According to the source, this is the first time a major cryptocurrency platform has directly sponsored a professional women’s sports team.

Crypto.com said in a statement that the sponsorship agreement will “expand access and exposure to cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and Web3 technologies for Los Angeles soccer fans and ACFC players.”

The cryptoasset exchange joins a prestigious roster of founders that includes Serena Williams, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Garner, and Eva Longira, as well as 15 former players of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team.

Alexis Ohanian, creator of Seven Seven Six and a founding investor in ACFC, said that the transaction will help establish the Football Club as a market leader and marked a “watershed moment” for women’s sports.

Ohanian, who co-founded Reddit as well, said of the purchase, Angel City has been devoted to becoming a pioneer in women’s football from its inception by fostering innovation that advances the game.

The Sports Business Journal’s accompanying storey said that the arrangement was valued “low seven figures each year.” ACFC is scheduled to open in 2022.
