Crypto.com releases its first cryptocurrency card to the Crown Prince of Bahrain

Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister were the initial recipients of the MasterCard card enabled by Crypto.com.

Crypto.com’s MasterCard card was initially presented to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain. The card is eligible for use in more than 150 million in-store and online locations worldwide, according to the exchange.

MasterCard’s Crypto.com card enables users to fund their cards through the Crypto.com application by utilizing e-money purses or third-party-issued credit and debit cards.

At Gudaibiya Palace, Eric Anziani, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Crypto.com, presented His Royal Highness with the company’s new Mastercard prototype, which is considered the first of its kind in the Middle East.

During the meeting, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad highlighted the Kingdom’s dedication to enhancing the digital technology and financial services industries. These sectors are important for the Kingdom’s overall development, which is being led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

In addition, he reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s dedication to the recruitment of international companies in prospective sectors, the enhancement of its regional and international standing, and the expansion of development across a variety of industries.

Alongside the Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB), HE Khalid Ebrahim Humaidan, the Minister of Finance and National Economy, HE Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, also attended the meeting.

During September 2024, Crypto.com was granted a payment service provider (PSP) license by the Central Bank of Bahrain through its subsidiary, which is registered in the Kingdom under the commercial name “FORIS GFS BH B.S.C. CLOSED.”

Crypto.com collaborated with Mastercard earlier this month to directly issue cards on Mastercard’s network. This license is the primary one that enables Crypto.com to introduce a Mastercard-powered card in Bahrain.

The new program allows the crypto exchange’s customers to use their card at more than 150 million in-store and online locations worldwide by utilizing Mastercard’s trusted, scalable, and secure payments network. The payment product will be accessible on all five tiers of the Crypto.com card.
