Blockchain gaming giant joins with chess Grandmasters on chess-inspired game
Animoca Brands and its subsidiary Lympo announced on August 15 that they are in the process of developing the chess-inspired blockchain game ‘Anichess’ in collaboration with Play Magnus Group (PMG), a global leader in the chess industry founded by Magnus Carlsen, a Norwegian chess Grandmaster who is the current five-time World Chess Champion.
Anichess is a blockchain-based chess game with a play-and-earn environment. When it opens in 2023, it will combine the worlds of chess and GameFi to create a rich gaming experience, according to an August 15 press release from Animoca Brands shared with Finbold.
Given their expertise with GameFi and sports non-fungible tokens, Anichess will be created and released under Lympo’s guidance.
In addition, Lympo’s partnership with Play Magnus Group gives them access to a pool of over 30 chess Grandmasters, including Magnus Carlsen, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Le, and others, who can offer advice, monitor development, and put Anichess through its paces as an immersive gaming experience for chess professionals and amateurs.
The new cooperation will lure chess players to blockchain gaming and vice versa. At the same time, the Play Magnus Group will invite the world’s finest chess players to help and advise on the deployment of chess engines in Anichess.
This token will be a gateway to the greater Lympo ecosystem, increasing the playing experience and the game’s value proposition.
Yat Siu, Animoca Brands’ co-founder and CEO, said: “Chess is a fast-growing esport. Combining with Play Magnus Group to build Anichess, we will provide chess players, casual gamers, and fans with unprecedented experiences.”
Meanwhile, Tadas Maurukas, co-founder and CEO of Lympo, said: Anichess adds a new strategic element to classic chess, creating never-before-seen circumstances. Established game designers, super chess grandmasters, esports stars, and casual players collaborate on a blockchain chess experience.
The objective of the blockchain-based chess game with a play-and-earn ecosystem is to merge the chess and GameFi gaming communities to deliver more engaging gaming experiences.
