Bitcoin advertisement truck in front of Silicon Valley Bank headquarters attracts global attention
A vehicle carrying advertising for Bitcoin (BTC) was seen outside California’s now-defunct Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) offices, catching the attention of the global cryptocurrency community and media outlets.
A Bitcoin fan and street artist known as Cryptograffiti put an advertisement for the leading decentralized finance (DeFi) asset on a truck and parked it in front of the entrance of the headquarters of the now-collapsed banking giant, recording a video of the procedure on Twitter on March 15.
The artist’s action, which appears to represent the perceived superiority of cryptocurrencies over traditional finance and carries the message “Be Your Own Bank,” has attracted the attention of international media, including a local television station in Barcelona, Spain, which aired the story on March 16, as reported by Twitter user eVelocity.
Indeed, after three central banks were shut down within days of one another, the contagion is threatening to spread to other institutions, including Credit Suisse, which today revealed plans to borrow nearly $54 billion from the Swiss central bank to strengthen its liquidity and prevent a possible collapse.
Such unpredictability in the banking industry has prompted several terrified investors to run to the cryptocurrency market, withdrawing large amounts of Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) from cryptocurrency exchanges to ‘hodl’ despite increased regulatory opposition.
Notably, Bitcoin enthusiasts have consistently claimed that the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization had the potential to act as a haven asset and a hedge against inflation. Robert Kiyosaki, author of the personal finance book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad,’ commended Bitcoin as a store of wealth in the event of a potential economic collapse.
