AMC Entertainment May Accept Dogecoin as Payment

The CEO of AMC Entertainment has polled the audience on whether the company should embrace Dogecoin for payment

Following the news that AMC will begin accepting Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin for online payment, the company’s CEO has asked the Dogecoin community whether the meme coin should be added to the cryptocurrency options.

Almost 80% Want to Use DOGE to Pay for a Movie Ticket

On Tuesday (September 21st, 2021), Adam Aron, CEO of the world’s largest movie theatre chain AMC Entertainment, conducted a poll through Twitter to determine whether the company should accept DOGE payment. The survey, which will close on September 22nd, has received a large number of answers, with the majority of respondents requesting that AMC incorporate the meme cryptocurrency.

According to Aron, the Twitter survey was conducted in response to requests from members of the Dogecoin online community for DOGE to be added to the list of cryptocurrency possibilities.

“I’ve heard from a number of people on my Twitter feed that we should also accept Dogecoin. Are you of the opinion that AMC should consider taking Dogecoin?”

Prior to this recent move, AMC’s CEO said that by the end of 2021, the movie theatre chain would take Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin. This follows Aron’s announcement in August during an earnings call that consumers would be able to purchase movie tickets and refreshments online using bitcoin by the end of the year.

The poll has received 110,000 votes, with 70% supporting the notion of DOGE payment, while 8% agree but would not use the meme coin for payment. Meanwhile, 22% of voters opposed the motion.

Growing Adoption of Dogecoin as a Means of Payment

Aron’s poll comes while the cryptocurrency industry, as well as the global financial markets, are facing major price drops, largely due to the Evergrande saga. Bitcoin, which was trading at $48k over the weekend, has fallen to as low as $40k, while the price of other cryptocurrencies has also plummeted. However, there has been some improvement.

Dogecoin is now the tenth-largest cryptocurrency by market size and hit an all-time high (ATH) of more than $0.7 in May. However, it has decreased to around $0.2.

If AMC Entertainment adds the meme token to its list of accepted cryptocurrencies, it will become the latest enterprise to accept DOGE payments. Additionally, the American basketball team Dallas Mavericks and Newegg have adopted Dogecoin.

Apart from Adam Aron of AMC, Tesla CEO Elon Musk conducted a similar survey among his fans. Although a majority of respondents chose for the electric vehicle maker to include DOGE as a payment option, the corporation has yet to make it official.
