The Metaverse Strategy of Dubai is Designed to Support 40,000 Virtual Jobs
The Government of Dubai released the “Dubai Metaverse Strategy” earlier this week, which seeks to make Dubai “one of the top 10 cities internationally in terms of metaverse economy.”
According to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), the Dubai Metaverse Strategy was launched on Monday (July 18) by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of Dubai.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed “emphasised the significance of solidifying Dubai’s role as a centre delivering the most sophisticated ecosystem for the metaverse and as a worldwide leader in embracing digital solutions, reflecting the ambition of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to develop the emirate into a global capital of innovative technologies, notably artificial intelligence (AI) and Web3.”
This plan aims to “expand on Dubai’s success in luring more than 1,000 enterprises in the blockchain and metaverse industries.” In addition, it “promotes Dubai’s aspirations to support over 40,000 virtual employment by 2030.” This will “improve Dubai’s economy and help the UAE government’s objective of quintupling the current number of blockchain enterprises.”
The Dubai Metaverse Strategy promotes “the development of Web3 technology and its applications to build new governmental work models and development in key areas such as tourism, education, retail, remote work, healthcare, and the legal system.” In addition, the initiative “seeks to produce global standards for constructing safe and secure platforms for users, as well as metaverse infrastructure and legislation to speed the adoption of these technologies.”
Principal pillars of the concept include extended reality (which combines the physical and virtual worlds), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality, and digital twins.
The press statement concluded that His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum “ordered government teams to begin drafting the Dubai Metaverse Strategy 60 days before its introduction.”
