Perplexity, an Android-based startup, has introduced the Perplexity Assistant, an AI agent.
The assistant is capable of scheduling dinner reservations, coordinating transportation through applications, setting reminders, and performing a variety of other tasks.
This digital assistant has the ability to recall contextual information and navigate web pages in order to complete assigned tasks. Users can activate the camera and inquire about objects in view, as it boasts multimodal capabilities, including video analysis.
The Perplexity Assistant was requested to coordinate a transport in an illustration that was provided. The assistant automatically opened Uber with available transportation to the destination after identifying the address.
Perplexity Assistant is currently accessible in 15 languages on the Google Play Store; however, it is not yet available on iOS in anticipation of Apple’s approval.
The assistant is not compatible with all applications; for example, it is unable to post comments on YouTube and does not have access to Slack or Reddit.
OpenAI had previously introduced its own AI agent, “Operator,” which was intended to execute online duties on behalf of users.
Furthermore, Anthropic, an AI startup, published an updated version of its model Claude 3.5 Sonnet in October 2024. This model is capable of interacting with computers in a manner similar to that of a human, including controlling the cursor, tapping buttons, and typing text.
