Musk responds to speculations of Biden pardoning FTX founder
Rumors regarding a presidential pardon for the proprietor of FTX have surfaced. The potential pardon remains the subject of public speculation and fluctuating odds.
Speculation regarding Sam Bankman-Fried’s potential fate has escalated amid plans to reimburse 119% of claimed value to nearly all former FTX users. In fact, there are currently rumors regarding a potential presidential mercy from Joe Biden.
Bankman-Fried, the former CEO of the FTX exchange, which is now defunct, was previously anticipated to serve a maximum of 25 years in prison for his involvement in the exchange’s collapse. Nevertheless, the forthcoming bankruptcy proceedings in January 2025 are considered to be of paramount importance, as his legal team is actively pursuing a reduced sentence.
The United States government has advocated for a sentence that spans from 40 to 50 years. In the interim, his defense has argued for only six.
Bankman-Fried’s substantial financial backing of the Democratic Party has sparked rumors that his political connections could potentially influence the outcome.
Wall Street Mav commented on the matter on X and observed, “Predict who may receive an early pardon from President Biden.”
In addition to a query regarding potential political affiliations, the post included images of President Joe Biden and Bankman-Fried. It also underscored Bankman-Fried’s position as the Democratic Party’s second-largest donor.
In response to Musk’s statement regarding the possibility of a pardon for Bankman-Fried, Polymarket observed a 9% increase in the probability of this occurring, from 4% to 13%. However, the most recent update indicated a decrease in the probabilities, which were 7% at the time of publication.
This fluctuation underscored the ambiguity of the rumors, leaving the outcome of SBF’s fate subject to speculation. In reality, President Biden has not indicated that he intends to grant Bankman-Fried a pardon.
Nevertheless, public apprehension persists, particularly in light of the recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, which runs counter to his previous assurances.
Furthermore, Nishad Singh, the former Engineering Director of FTX, has avoided a prison sentence in exchange for substantial cooperation, which has further intensified concerns regarding regulatory supervision and accountability in the cryptocurrency sector.
