Laszlo Hanyecz, a programmer, exchanged 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas in May 2010. In the current market, the value of those cryptocurrencies would be $990 million.

Laszlo initiated the concept of this transaction on May 18, 2010, by posting an offer on a Bitcoin forum for 10,000 bitcoins in exchange for two pizzas. Although he wanted pizza with hot meat, onions, and green peppers, pineapple was not an option. At that time, Bitcoin was a novel concept, and the majority of individuals were unaware of its significance.

Although a significant number of individuals viewed Laszlo’s post, there was a lack of interest. A small number of individuals expressed interest in participating in the agreement, but they were not located in the United States. Jeremy Sturdivant, a 19-year-old adolescent, subsequently consented to the agreement on April 3. He ordered two pizzas for Laszlo using his credit card and received 10,000 bitcoins in return.

Laszlo shared images of his pizzas online, referring to the exchange as the first “real” transaction in Bitcoin. The value of 10,000 bitcoins was only $30 at the time, which seemed reasonable to Laszlo. Despite the fact that Bitcoin’s value was increasing, the cost of those pizzas remained high. However, what was once a common purchase has since become a legend.

In 2013, the equivalent of $10 million was spent on those pizzas. In 2021, their valuation increased to $600 million. The value of the pizzas will exceed $1 billion by 2024, as Bitcoin approaches $100,000.

Laszlo also participated in a CBS “60 Minutes” broadcast, during which he clarified that Bitcoin appeared to be akin to video game currency at the time and that purchasing pizza with it was a thrilling experience. Eventually, he spent approximately 10,000 bitcoins on pizza, which would be equivalent to approximately $1 billion in today’s price. Laszlo has no remorse; he mined those bitcoins independently, and they were essentially free. He remains a modest programmer, unconcerned by his lack of wealth.

Jeremy, the teenager who took Bitcoin for the pizzas, spent his Bitcoins right away on travel and living costs. In an interview, he disclosed that he had converted the 10,000 bitcoins into $400, which was ten times his original investment. Currently, he possesses only $119 in Bitcoin and has no remorse for any of it. He cherishes his involvement in the early days of Bitcoin history, as this moment made history.
