EigenLayer X hackers possibly stole $800K posting dog photos

Security analysts have concluded that the Ethereum protocol EigenLayer has been the victim of a phishing attack by X (formerly Twitter), which distributed phishing links and likely seized $800,000 from a single victim.

There was a scam link that said the “EIGEN stakedrop Phase 2 is now open” and that a certain number of EIGEN tokens would be given out.

Nevertheless, the account has uploaded a number of similar messages, such as a seven-part thread and a disclaimer that notifies users that any postings beyond the final one may be fraud attempts.

The hackers even submitted a photograph of a dog wearing a flower headdress in order to entice users into clicking on the harmful links.

The hackers are hoping that the adorable dog image will entice additional victims to click. According to security analyst Scam Sniffer, “EigenLayer’s X account was compromised and posted fraudulent tweets.” He also reported that the link may install malware, acquire private recovery phrases, and feature fake MetaMask sites.

Scam Sniffer also observed that an individual lost $800,000 in mETH after signing a permit phishing signature at approximately the same time. “The victim is highly likely to have acted on the fraudulent tweet from EigenLayer,” it stated.
