Ubisoft Introduces its inaugural Web3 game on Oasys

Ubisoft, a video game developer from France, recently announced the release of its inaugural game that integrates Web3 technology.

The Oasys layer-2 Home Verse, a blockchain-powered ecosystem for Web3 games, will host Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles starting on October 23. Sylvain Loe-Mie, the executive producer of the game, elucidated how Web3 technology improves the experience without overwhelming the user.

Web3 technology allows users to meaningfully own their in-game assets.” This stewardship fosters a more profound connection with the overall experience and their Champions.

As per the description, the game is a tactical role-playing game (RPG) in which players construct coalitions of champions to engage in player-versus-player (PvP) combat against one another. Set in a domain of grim fantasy, this game emphasizes strategy, warfare, and team building.

Players have the ability to possess, barter, and employ seventy-five thousand unique digital collectible champions to create their teams for combat. The “Forge” system in Ubisoft’s forthcoming Web3-augmented game will enable users to personalise their current champions in order to generate new ones.

Loe-Mie acknowledged that the Forge system “may encounter challenges” during the explanation, including the necessity of maintaining a balanced system to ensure that all new Champions are fair and competitive.

“We remain dedicated to optimising these components in order to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for all guests.”

Ubisoft has already incorporated alpha and beta testing into its début in the Web3 gaming industry. We develop these evaluations to collect player feedback and guarantee that the game’s mechanics are well-balanced.

Nevertheless, the use of digital assets can be a risky endeavour, as evidenced by the economic instability that resulted from changes in market value in previous Web3 games such as Axie Infinity. According to Loe-Mie, the game’s future viability is still the primary concern, as “market volatility and fluctuating demand” can have an impact on the entire system.

“Our primary objective is to develop a game that is sustainable and has digital collectibles that enhance the experience rather than dictating it.”

The industry’s “The Future of Web3 Gaming is Competitive: Global Gaming Report 2024” research revealed that the transition from Web2 gaming to Web3 gaming can be intimidating for those who are not familiar with bitcoin wallets.

Elympics was able to conduct the study by collaborating with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) and the blockchain game data tracker PlayToEarn. The analysis demonstrated that the complexity of cryptocurrency wallets was the reason over ten percent of the poll participants were unable to engage in blockchain game play.
