Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino Offers OpenAI Hack Prevention Option

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, has said that the company is working on decentralized AI models to improve privacy and security.

The company that makes the USDT stablecoin, Tether, is working on decentralized artificial intelligence (AI) models as part of its push into this field.

According to CEO Paolo Ardoino, who made the announcement on X, these models might have averted OpenAI’s attack from last year.

According to reports, a hacker gained access to OpenAI’s internal communications systems and stole details about the AI product concepts the business was working on. On the other hand, the system containing the AI development remained inaccessible to the attackers.

Despite informing staff and the board of directors of the event in an April 2023 meeting, the corporation chose not to inform the public or the authorities about the hack. Some have questioned the company’s management of the matter and the intense scrutiny it has received due to its silence. What Ardoino thinks would have saved the day is that the company should have used a locally executable AI model.

According to Ardoino, these approaches provide system independence and robustness while also better protecting users’ privacy. The speaker made the point that modern mobile devices and computers can train generic large language models (LLMs) using user input and save the improvements locally.

The only method to safeguard individuals’ privacy and guarantee their resilience and independence is via locally executable AI models. Ardoino said that modern mobile devices and computers are more than capable of refining generic LLMs using user data while keeping improvements locally on the device.

Ardoino ended his reply with a “WIP [Work in progress]” conclusion, further suggesting that the firm was working on these solutions.

In line with its new AI division’s goals of capitalizing on the AI trend, Tether has made this information public. The company’s long-term goal is to be the first to market with open-source, multimodal AI models. The company has already put a lot of funds into artificial intelligence startups like Northern Data Group.

“In order to drive innovation and accessibility within AI technology, Tether data wants to pioneer the creation of open-source, multimodal AI models to create new industry standards,” Tether said.

Tether’s artificial intelligence division will develop AI models and initiate partnerships to incorporate AI-powered solutions into products driven by the market. Open AI is another area that this team hopes to make strides in.
