Bitcoin SV (BSV) hit by a 51 percent attack last night

Bitcoin SV (BSV) was subjected to a 51% attack, resulting in the creation of three malicious chains.

Last night, the infamous 51 percent attack was launched against the contentious Bitcoin fork. The attackers retreated, but not without causing significant damage. resulting in the creation of over three malicious chains and the reorganization of several blocks, data from multiple sources indicated.

“After an attempted attack yesterday, some serious hashing power was unleashed today at 11:46 AM and attackers are succeeding. Over a dozen blocks are being reorgd & up to 3 versions of the chain being mined simultaneously across pools,”

Lucas Nuzzi

He also added that there was considerable confusion across mining pools following the attack, but only one (successful) 14-block was reorganized since the attack began. The Bitcoin Association stated in response to the attack that node operators should mark the fraudulent chain as “invalid,” allowing to return the node to the chain supported by honest miners and “lock out the attacker’s chain.”

“To invalidate the fraudulent chain, node operators should  run the following command on their #BitcoinSV node: bitcoin-cli invalidateblock 00000000000003B67AEC95E9B5DA897EB5EBF3227D5A6A67835104367840.”

At the time of publication, major cryptocurrency exchanges had not delisted BSV. Huobi, OKEx, and Bittrex, on the other hand, had previously delisted BSV following a similar attack last month, which resulted in an illegal block reorganization.
